This revolutionary new hybrid tower concept provides a practical and economical tower-and-foundation system that brings significant performance improvements to the wind power industry. Comprising the lower 30-60-m of a 110 m or higher tower, the Atlas CTB™ is ideal for larger wind turbines. This flared-base, precast concrete lower section accommodates a conventional steel monotower upper section. The large-footprint base (generally 15–18 m) is composed of multiple precast staves that are erected and stabilized by post-tensioning.
The load-distributing, large-footprint base requires a simple ring foundation with a thickness of 1 m or less.
The Atlas CTB™ is a revolutionary development destined to deliver significant improvements in wind turbine efficiency and wind farm profitability. With a base height of anywhere from 30-60 meters, the Atlas CTB™ elevates a conventional 70-100-meter mono-tower to a height of more than 110 meters. And because it can accommodate conventional steel mono-towers, your turbine can now reach heights of 130 meters.
The precast concrete tower components are easily transported by truck or rail and are erected using conventional cranes. Tindall provides another game changing solution to the industry by offering near-site fabrication of the precast concrete wind tower components where logistics and schedule requirements of a project are better served than from one of Tindall's five manufacturing locations in North America. Because of the unique structure the Atlas CTB also provides ample enclosed space for electrical distribution and turbine control equipment in addition to other support and wind turbine maintenance functions.
