Tindall Completes Howell Mill Retail/Parking Project
SPARTANBURG, SC—Tindall Corporation has completed the precast framing for the District at Howell Mill, a mixed-use development in metro Atlanta, according to Gregory F. Force, P.E., President and COO.
The project demanded creative solutions and cutting-edge precast technology. It needed to accommodate the city’s first urban Wal-Mart®, several big-box retail stores and plentiful parking all on a tight, nine-acre site. Plus, it had to provide a spacious loading dock area on grade level, with retail stores stacked above.
Tindall accomplished those goals by establishing Wal-Mart with a huge presence at grade level, close to the well-lit parking deck. Stacked across the top of Wal-Mart are big-box retail stores served by wide streets with limited parking.
Unprecedented 140-ft spans allow access to the loading dock on grade and accommodate impressive live loading from big-box retail above. Due to the structural depth required, beam weights were designed with a continuous bottom flange and spliced web sections.
