Precast construction resolved a number of challenges for the construction of a three-bay, three-level parking garage at the existing Green Hills Mall in Nashville, TN. The new 170,000-square-foot parking garage was planned to provide added spaces to support the Mall at Green Hills while maintaining operations during the busy holiday season.
Holiday traffic congestion created very tight construction site access and an aggressive construction schedule were overcome by a focused project execution plan. Tindall provided long span precast bulb tees for three pedestrian bridges with one bridge clear spanning an existing roadway to minimize traffic interruption during construction and eliminate any long term traffic interference. Tindall delivered over 400 other precast concrete components on a just-in-time schedule to maintain the erection schedule and ensure the ongoing mall operations and traffic continued without interruption.
To improve precast production, delivery and erection, the bridge’s architectural spandrels used light weight aggregate. Architectural elements of the project included multiple thin brick colors and exposed aggregate finishes.
