Balancing Elegance & Efficiency in a New State Hospital

The Central State Hospital project was inherently complex. Every precast concrete exterior finish piece needed to be unique, yet still fit with the facility’s overarching theme and appearance. This necessitated the use of buff-colored concrete and a specific formliner constructed to PCI MNL-117 specifications to imbue the resulting precast sections with a woodgrain visual texture.

The facility’s design called for walls stepped to produce a curved appearance, and Tindall’s team carefully integrated each section for a perfect fit. By leveraging their extensive expertise with precast concrete solutions, Tindall saved the project a significant amount of time. From start to finish, erecting the exterior finish sections took only nine months.

Ultimately, the finished Central State Hospital incorporated many distinct sections of precast concrete, concrete masonry units, and steel that wove together into an elegant structure befitting the goals of the project. The Tindall team’s attention to detail and process efficiency helped make Central State Hospital ready for use on time and stand out as a new standard for behavioral health treatment facilities.
